Recovinyl confirms that UK is major contributor to European PVC recycling initiativesRecovinyl, the PVC recycling operation of which Merritt Plastics is a member, has reported than the UK contributed more than 20% of the total recycled across Europe during 2013.

The UK was responsible 88,648 tonnes out of the 435,083 tonnes of waste PVC recycled through Recovinyl’s 141 companies, whose membership spans European 16 countries.

PVC-U window profiles were the single biggest product to be recycled, accounting for 50,421 tonnes (57%) of the UK recycling effort.

According to Recovinyl, this is equivalent to the replacement of 3 million individual frames, or more than 300,000 homes based on an average of ten windows per house.

“Once again, the UK has made a significant contribution to the success of PVC recycling, thanks to ongoing commitment from the sector and sustained investment in recycling infrastructure across the country,” explained Recovinyl spokesperson Jane Gardner.
