Largest ever recycling week coincides with inaugural Plastics Recycling Expo

Largest ever recycling week coincides with inaugural Plastics Recycling ExpoThe profile of the recycling industry was raised during June, when the 11th annual Recycling Week coincided with the first Plastics Recycling Expo, held at the International Centre in Telford.

The exhibition attracted visitors from around the world – with organisers reporting attendees from regions as diverse as Japan, Scandinavia and the Middle East – as well as influential guests including Shadow Environment Minster Barry Gardiner.

Investment was a key theme at the show, with speakers advising that this will only happen when investors can see evidence of the sort of returns achievable. Accordingly, there were call for the development of realistic end markets that can use recycled material – such as the range of recycled UPVC products manufactured by Merritt Plastics.

Another theme was the need to promote recycling so that consumers better understand the benefits, something that chimed with the main message of Recycling Week. Organised by Wrap, the government-backed waste and recycling organisation, the theme for this year’s series of activities was ‘Recycling at Home and Away’.
